Painting Pathway

A rewarding career can easily be obtained through an organised and exciting training system in an increasingly valued industry.

PRE TRADE

This seventeen week course is optional and is run in some centres in NZ. The basics in practical and technical information are provided at this course. This course comprises of :-

  • One day a week work experience
  • Four days in the classroom
  • Two week work experience (in the middle of the seventeen weeks)

After the pre-trade course, should an apprenticeship be taken on, a credit of 350 hours towards his/her apprenticeship is granted.

APPRENTICESHIPS

On signing an apprenticeship agreement with an employer you have an option of taking the compulsory 4000 hour painting module coupled with one or both of the wallpapering or spray techniques modules (1000 each). If both options are taken, 6000 hours will be completed, to obtain the National Certificates.

Most training is done on site with the employer using a training booklet for assistance. The training is then assessed by the training providers at block courses.
